Musical Theater: Getting My Fix

I am a huge fan of musical theater and haven't seen any live performances recently; I truly miss them. I did get my fix on TV the other night, even though it wasn't in person. I watched "Great Performances, 'South Pacific' In Concert from Carnegie Hall" on PBS. Although the actors read from a script and there was no scenery, I loved it! I was blown away by Brian Stokes Mitchell's portrayal of Emile de Becque; his singing amazed me. Reba McEntire was a believable Nellie Forbush and Lillias White as Bloody Mary sang and played her role to the hilt. No matter how many times I've seen the movie, the music and lyrics still touch me. I'm well versed in "South Pacific", having first seen the movie when I was 10 years old, playing the role of Emile's daughter in a summer camp production and being in the play again while in high school as part of the nurses' chorus. I would love to see a professional production of it live on stage someday.

For his latest stunt, magician and illusionist David Blaine is currently submerged in a 8 foot sphere of salt water and plans to stay in it for a week. His human aquarium is in front of Lincoln Center in New York City. If he makes it through the week, he'll then attempt to handcuff himself to 150 pounds of chain, remove the breathing apparatus he's now using, and try to break the world record of almost nine minutes without breathing. ABC is planning to televise the final part of his stunt (I don't plan to watch). Personally, I think he's very weird, but as the old saying goes, "It takes all kinds to make the world go around". Like this is so important in my life - NOT! *LOL* But it is fun news. Rosie O'Donnell is going to be back on TV. She'll be joining the ladies of "The View" when Meredith Vieira leaves "View" to host the "Today" show beginning in December. Rosie is an interesting, and in my opinion, great choice. I'm wondering what the dynamics of the new group will be like? Barbara Walters seems to be able to get along with everyone on TV while the rest of the ladies, including Joy Behar, Star Jones Reynolds and Elisabeth Hasselbeck are all strong personalities in their own right. Stay tuned!

On last night's episode of "The Apprentice", viewers were given a chance to win $10,000 by text messaging who they thought should be fired; if they chose correctly and agreed with "The Donald" at the end of the show, they went into a drawing for the cash. Fifteen minutes into the show, the top vote getter was Lee and the task was just beginning! Long story short, Lee was a PM and his team won, so of course he didn't get fired, but it did show just how little support he has from the viewers. *sigh*

That's what happened last Tuesday night to 84-year-old widow Josephine Crawford, while playing slots at Harrah's Casino in Atlantic City. According to a newspaper article, It didn't take long for word of her luck to spread. Three men proposed to her after she won. "Their wives were there, too!" said Crawford. "One of them told me, 'You can have him.'"

World's Smallest Cat?

Heed, a nine week old kitten from California, just might make it into the Guinness Book Of World Records as the world's smallest cat when he's full grown at six months. Right now he's 3 inches tall and weighs in at a whopping 1.2 pounds. Look at his size in comparison to the piece of paper he's lying on ... now that IS small!
